I am writing from El Salvador. I have been in contact with the NGO "Healing the Children" for the past two weeks with a request that a newborn here in San Salvador be considered for heart surgery in the States. I have just received word that none of their contact hospitals are able to accept the child; they already have waiting lists. I'm not clear looking at your website if you are limited to surgical teams who travel from the States to other countries, or if you have facilities in the States for receiving surgical patients. The baby is now 32 days old, at home on oxygen. His heart chambers are not separated and his pulmonary and aortic blood is mixed. The parents were told in El Bloom, the National Childrens Hospital in San Salvador that the necessary surgery cannot be done in this country.
Thank you. Sister Eleanor

Response received back from Sister Eleanor

My Goodness, Brad. Such a quick response.
I was just writing an email to one of our Exec. staff at PeaceHealth, Bellevue. I have some, perhaps crazy, idea that he is on the board of Children's Orthopedic, Seattle.
Thank you so much for your incredible interest and response. We do rural missions here in el Salvador. Our PeaceHealth employees (6 hospitals in NW, but no candidate hospital for this kind of surgery) come down for these brigades.
I will keep you informed. The baby is at home on oxygen. The family lives in Suchitoto. Sister Peggy O'Neill, Sister of Charity of Convent Station, NJ contacted me and is assisting the parents with remote preparations in case something opens up. For instance, they've obtained a passport for the mother and child. If there is an opportunity for surgery north, we can apply to the US Embassy for an emergency visa.
I will keep you informed.
